TREE PRUNING

We can prolong the safe useful life of your trees by inspecting and pruning them on a regular basis. The following descriptions will help you understand what we will accomplish when we prune your trees. These descriptions are taken from the American National Standard for Pruning (ANSI A300).

Pruning Objectives

Pruning objectives should be agreed upon prior to beginning the pruning operation.  A300 provides two basic objectives:

1. Hazard Reduction Pruning

This is recommended when the primary objective is to reduce the danger to a specific target caused by visibly defined hazards in a tree.

2. Maintenance Pruning

This is recommended when the primary objective is to maintain or improve tree health and structure, and includes hazard reduction pruning.

PRUNING TYPES

Hazard reduction pruning and maintenance pruning should consist of one or more of the following pruning types:

CROWN CLEANING

The selective removal of one or more of the following items: dead, dying or diseased branches, weak branches and watersprouts.

CROWN THINNING

The selective removal of branches to increase light penetration, air movement, and reduce weight.

CROWN RESTORATION

Improves the structure, form and appearance of trees that have been severely headed (topped), vandalized or damaged by weather.

CROWN RAISING

The removal of the lower branches of a tree to provide clearance.

CROWN REDUCTION

Reduces the height and spread of the tree. This treatment is often chosen for older trees with potentially hazardous defects to keep them in the landscape.

BRANCH SIZE

A minimum or maximum diameter branch size to be removed can be specified to establish how much pruning will be done.

TREE REMOVAL & STUMP GRINDING

We use safe and modern equipment to remove unwanted trees with as little impact on the rest of your property as feasible. Many communities require permits for tree removal. We will guide you through the permit process to remove trees legally and avoid City Code violations.

Reasons to remove trees

1. Crowd Control

The selective removal of healthy trees from a crowded landscape provides space for remaining trees to grow and prosper.

2. Remove Decrepit or Nuisance Trees

The removal of decrepit or nuisance trees can open up a place to replant a young, vigorous tree of your choice that can contribute to your landscape for decades.

3. Remove Hazard Trees

Sometimes a tree’s problems are so advanced that pruning, cabling and other techniques just won’t work. When a hazardous tree must be removed to reduce risk, we will work conscientiously to ease your liability and safety concerns.

4. Stump Grinding

Tree stumps can be ground down below grade and a new tree can often be replanted in the same place.
